The Living Room Set: Storytelling & Sound
How Music Came to Earth (An Aztec Legend)
One day the sky god, Tezcatlipoca, ruler of the Universe, was walking the Earth, when he began to notice the silence. Everything was glorious, that was true, but the great emptiness in the air around him made him sad. He felt sorry for the people of Earth. What would they listen to? What would fill their heads and hearts?
Storytelling and Music have been at the heart of human culture since the start of time. Our guest teacher Zamir Dhanji has spent the past decade seeking the Stories and Sounds that weave our human consciousness together. One such journey was going to meet the creator of the Handpan and bringing this unique instrument back with him, long before anyone had seen or heard this Sound. He has since brought his trusted instrument along with him on his travels to share and learn from others. His repertoire has evolved through playing with many other musicians, performing on various stages and doing what he likes best, sharing the stories he has collected along the way. In his own words:
"Yoga for me is a way of life. One that teaches me how to live with integrity to cosmic principles, or what in Sanskrit is called "Dharma”. The path as a whole includes the study of Buddhist teachings and applying oneself as a Bodhisattva, meaning dedication to the ideal of attaining enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings as a servant of life. Dance, music, storytelling and poetry are the creative ways that I explore the resonance of unity - aiding my communion with the Divine spark in myself and others around me.”- Zamir Dhanji
Join Zamir and our resident musicians Jens Ringefelt and Gary Fernandez on January 18th as we discover the rest of this Aztec legend for an evening of immersive Sound Journey and Storytelling. Come hang out with us for some music, chill vibes and light refreshments. You are invited to BYOW (Bring your own wine) and kindly arrive between 20:00 - 20:20 as the session begins at 20:30.
